You probably envy those people who get through the cold season without even a sniffle. Even when there are stomach bugs in the workplace, they tend to survive unscathed. But there’s no reason to be envious because you can also be like these people who never get sick by simply changing some bad habits and turning them into good ones:
1. Have a Consistent Sleep Schedule
Research shows that if you sleep less than seven hours every day, you are more prone to colds. The huge reason behind this is when you sleep, the body repairs itself.
If you don’t sleep well at night, the body becomes more susceptible to almost any kind of infection. Nighttime is the time when the body tries to regulate stress hormones. If you have a set bedtime, which you should follow both on weekdays and weekends, it will be much easier for the body to cope with stress and fight infection.
2. Know What to Eat
Junk foods taste good and are quite addictive. However, they will not do good to your body, unlike fresh fruits and vegetables. It is time for you to start eating healthy by adding nutrient-dense foods, including:
Sweet potatoes
Bell peppers
Citrus fruits
Almond
Red grapes
Even drinking red wine is a great way to stay healthy. When you eat healthy foods, you help the body fight bacteria and germs that can cause infections and colds.
3. Wash Your Hands
You don’t have to keep washing your hands every few minutes to keep the germs away. There are a few key times when hand washing is extremely necessary and these are:
Before and after you prep your food
Before you eat
After using the bathroom
After you cough or sneeze
Wash with soap and water for about 20 seconds to reduce risk of developing colds or flu by up to 50%.
4. Stay Happy
One of the best ways to stay happy is to be with other people. Whether they are your friends or your family, you should remain connected with your social links. Relieve stress by going out with your friends and laugh with other people. If you’re constantly exposed to stress, you should find time to de-stress. A simple hug from your loved one can get rid of the heaviness in your chest that can actually weaken your immune system.
Health is wealth, as they say. Now you don’t have to consider being healthy some form of luck. Apply the changes to your daily habits as mentioned above and you’ll be able to enjoy a life that’s free from sickness.
