12 Natural Remedies to Remove Keloids

Scarring is a natural part of the body’s healing process. When you get a scrape or wound, scar tissue forms over the wound to protect it and facilitate healing. There are times, however, when the scar tissue grows far beyond the original site, forming a thick, hard, disfiguring scar called keloids.

Keloids are benign growths, though at times they may feel tender or itchy. They are more often a cosmetic concern than a medical one. They can make you feel self-conscious, especially when the growths are very large or highly visible.

Treating or surgically removing the keloid can be a tricky one. Keloids form as the body’s attempt to heal itself. Hence, removing the keloid might mean that the scar tissue would grow back again.

As an alternative, you can try natural remedies to reduce the appearance of keloids without the risk of the scars growing back. The following are the most common natural remedies used for the removal of keloids.

    Aloe Vera

Aloe vera has anti-inflammatory properties that help inhibit excessive collagen formation that could lead to a keloid. Apply aloe gel frequently and continuously on the scar as soon as the wound starts to heal. Make sure to clean off dead skin cells before each application this can also cause irregular collagen growth.

In addition to its anti-inflammatory properties, aloe vera also has a cooling and soothing effect on the skin that can help alleviate pain. Aloe gel also blocks the entry of bacteria and foreign bodies into the wound.

    Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has long been touted for its skin health benefits, including the capability to diminish keloids and scars. It has anti-inflammatory properties, which helps reduce the swelling and redness of the scar. Apple cider vinegar also contains alpha hydroxy acids that help slough off dead skin cells, thus diminishing the size and discoloration of the keloid.

Apply apple cider vinegar directly on the affected area. Let it dry for a few minutes then repeat the process to speed up the healing. Do this several times a day for 4 to 5 weeks for best results.

Sandal wood and rose water paste

Sandal wood has long been used for its skin revitalizing properties. It is particularly useful in revitalizing dry, inflamed skin and in preventing the skin from forming unsightly scars. Rose water, on the other hand, is a natural toning and healing agent.

Add enough rose water to sandal wood powder to make a paste. Mix well and apply on the affected area before going to bed. Wash it off with warm water in the morning. Do this procedure for two months or until you see results.

    Lemon juice

Lemon juice’s capability to reduce keloids stem from its rich  vitamin C and citric acid content. Vitamin C is an integral component of collagen synthesis, while citric acid is a form of alpha hydroxy acid which helps in the exfoliation of dead skin cells. It also has a bleaching effect on the skin, thereby helping to reduce the discoloration of  keloids.

Cut a lemon juice in half and rub the fleshy part on the affected area, making sure that  it is covered with the juices. Leave this on for about 30 minutes then wash off with warm water. Do this at least once daily.

    Honey

Skin dryness can aggravate keloids, causing them to become deeper. Honey provides a wonderful remedy for dry skin as it is a natural humectant, thus keeping the skin supple and moisturized.

Massage organic honey on the affected area at least twice a day. You should see results after some regular use.

    Baking soda

Baking soda can help reduce the appearance of keloids by acting as an abrasive agent when used as a scrub. Mix one part baking soda with three parts hydrogen peroxide to make a paste. Massage the paste on the affected area. Re-apply the paste two to three times a day.

    Garlic

Garlic prevents the production of fibroblast cells, the cells responsible for the formation of keloids. Apply garlic oil on the affected area. Leave it on for 10 minutes then wash it off thoroughly. Alternatively, you can crush a garlic clove and rub this on the scar. Leave it for 10 minutes before rinsing it off with water.

    Fuller’s earth

Fuller’s earth is a popular natural treat met for keloids as well as for scars left by burns, acne and other skin disorders. Mix Fuller’s earth, lemon juice and rose water to make smooth paste. Apply and massage the paste on the affected area. Let it dry for 10 minutes then do it again. Do this regularly until the scar vanishes.

    Castor oil

Castor oil can help improve the appearance of keloids and make them less noticeable by softening and smoothening out the fibrous tissue that makes up the scar. Gently massage castor oil on the affected area to promote circulation and expedite healing.

    Kukui Nut Oil

Kukui Nut Oil or Candlenut oil is rich in vitamins C, D and E as well as antioxidants, all of which have been associated with skin-protecting properties. Kukui Nut Oil also stimulates collagen reproduction and locks in moisture similar to silicone. Gently massage Kukui Nut Oil in the affected area at least twice a day.

    Cocoa-shea butter cream

Cocoa butter and shea butter both contain high concentrations of vitamin E, antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids, all of which have long been regarded as beneficial for the skin. Its rich fatty acid content helps keep the skin moisturized, keeping the keloid from growing deeper. Shea butter has the additional benefit of stimulating collagen formation.

Melt 2 teaspoons cocoa butter and 2 teaspoons shea butter and then  add one teaspoon vitamin E oil. Store in a container. The cocoa butter and shea butter will solidify once it’s cooled, but will melt once it’s applied on skin. Use this on the affected area at least twice a day.

    Rose hip seed oil

Rose hip oil has long been used for its skin rejuvenating capabilities, particularly for diminishing scars. It’s rich in retinoic acid and vitamin A, both of which prevent hyperpigmentation of scars, encourage cell turnover and increase collagen production. Massage rose hip seed oil on the affected area at least twice a day to improve circulation and promote healing fast.

Japanese Ways of Losing Weight

Japan is number one when it comes obesity rates in the world. It has showed that japan has only 3% of people that has greater than 30 in body fat based on their weight and height. This number is far smaller than other big countries. The weight loss center credits lowest obesity rates from how the Japanese approach weight, diet and exercise. The Japanese primarily believe that exercise, wellbeing and a well balanced diet is essential to living a healthy and sustainable life. They may be a country that consumes a lot of white rice, but they also believe in balancing it out with fish, vegetables and other healthy ingredients. According to the weight loss center in America, Japan consumes more fish than the states. Other ways Japan has managed to maintain their weight and live a healthy lifestyle are listed below.
Portion Size

Japanese manage to consume a variety of foods at one meal time without going beyond the boundaries of a properly portioned meal than most of the world. This is mostly due to how most of their food is prepared bite sized. Sushi, small sausages, rice balls and even vegetables are prepared in small portions. This encourages the person to eat a lot slower and allowing themselves to savor the food. The notion that they are also consuming a wide variety of food to appreciate the food more instead of shoving it one after the other. The Japanese also uses smaller plates and often use Bento boxes that separates their food in good portions. This creates the illusion that they have consumed more food than they actually have.
Exercise

Japanese do not seek exercise as much as other countries. They tend to incorporate it in their daily life, instead of preparing a workout plan or going to the gym. They would opt for any form of daily exercise like biking, jogging, walking and simple stretches. By walking or taking the stairs every day, they are able to burn calories in their daily routine without allotting a specific time to work out. This is said to be one of the key things that keeps the obesity rate low in Japan. Stretching in the morning, breathing exercises and simple movements are also a great part of their morning routine. This is said to help with circulation and better digestion.
Cooking Techniques

Japan like most Asian countries prefer to cook broths instead of cream type sauces or soup. This is a lot lower in calories and is actually a lot healthier too. Fish broth is one of the most used ingredients in Japanese cuisine. Other low calorie foods such as mushrooms and kelp are a staple in their cooking. They also prefer to use light cooking techniques such as steaming, simmer and stir-frying. They do often deep fry some foods, but this often fried in healthy oils and strained. The Japanese prefer cooking techniques that would preserve the nutrients and antioxidants in the food, instead of quick cooking.
Order of Food

Most Japanese eat their food in a certain order. They believe that we should fill our body first with foods that we need then what we want. Vegetables or healthy food is often served first, then the rest of the meal. This prevents them from eating too much and controls their portion when they plan to eat out or do it family style. Using chopstick is also great for slowing down eating. It is also a good Japanese habit to eat meals on the table. Reducing distractions such as phones and TVs.
Control

The Japanese believe in a practice where they stop consuming food when they feel like they are about to feel full. They are encouraged to place their fork or chopsticks down and wait for 20 to 30 minutes to determine if they are still hungry. This is a great way to control mindless eating. They would often snack on something healthy after 30 minutes if they still feel the need to consume food. This helps cut down a lot of calories. What do you think of these tips? Do you think living your diet and lifestyle in a Japanese way can help you with your weight loss and health? If you tried any of these tips, share your experience with us here!

Natural Remedies for Head Lice

What can I do at home to treat and prevent lice naturally?

Common, conventional treatments (over-the-counter and prescription) such as: pyrethrins (permethrin lotion 1%), benzyl alcohol lotion, ivermectin lotion, malathion lotion, or lindane shampoo 1% – have been know to be harmful to human health, especially in the case of small children, and likewise harmful to the environment.

Nevertheless, there are proven, very effective natural remedies for lice that do not use harmful chemicals.
They are as follows:
1. Nit Comb.

Use a fine-toothed nit comb to remove lice from the hair, working through the hair one small section at a time. Tea tree oil can also be applied directly to a fine-toothed comb and combed through dry hair with each brushing. Combing the hair at least 3 times a day for the first week — and then nightly for a week — will help to gradually remove eggs and newly hatched lice. This is one of the most effective ways of removing head lice without the use of insecticidal shampoos. Note: Make sure you clean out the lice comb by soaking it in vinegar for at least 30 minutes or by boiling it in water for 5-10 minutes.
2. Melaleuca (tea tree oil).

This essential oil is an all-natural insecticide and an amazing treatment for head lice. To use: (a) add 3-5 drops of Melaleuca (tea tree oil) to every one ounce of natural shampoo (b) mix 3 tablespoons of carrier oil (olive, coconut, olive, coconut, jojoba, or sesame) and a teaspoon of Melaleuca (tea tree oil) together in a bowl…apply to hair for 30-45 minutes…shampoo normally. (c) add 10-20 drops directly into the washing machine when washing infected items. (d) add 15 drops to 2 ounces of water and spray onto hair while combing with a nit comb.
3. Neem Oil Shampoo.

Neem oil, like tea tree oil, is also considered all-natural insecticide. Used by gardeners safely to prevent and kill pests on plants…it is just as safe and effective in the treatment of lice. Once a lice infestation is realized begin using a neem oil based shampoo — or add few teaspoons of neem oil to your normal shampoo.
4. Apple Cider Vinegar.

Before and after shampooing, rinse your hair with vinegar…or soak hair with vinegar and leave it on for a few minutes before combing with a nit comb. Towel-dry hair. This will help remove nits from the hair shaft.
5. Healing Oil Treatment.

High in anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and natural insecticide properties sesame seed and neem oils are the base for this healing oil treatment. Wisk together 1/4 cup of sesame seed oil, 1/8 cup neem oil, 10 drops Melaleuca (tea tree oil), 5 drops each eucalyptus and rosemary essential oils, and 10 drops of lavender essential oils. Begin by rinsing the hair with apple cider vinegar and allow it to dry (this will help dissolve the glue-like substance produces by the nits). Apply healing oil treatment to the hair and scalp, cover with a shower cap, and leave-in for 6-8 hours or overnight. Use a fine-toothed nit comb to remove all the dead lice and nits. Shampoo normally. Apply this treatment every day for five days to eradicate lice.
6. Coconut oil.

Just as with the above healing oil treatment…prior to applying coconut oil rinse the hair with apple cider vinegar and allow it to dry. Apply coconut oil to the hair, cover with a shower cap, and leave-in for 6-8 hours or overnight. Comb hair with a nit comb. Shampoo normally. Apply this treatment to the hair and scalp every day for five days to eradicate lice. Note: For a powerhouse treatment, add several drops of ylang-ylang and anise essential oils to the coconut oil prior to application.

7. Garlic.

Grind 8 to 10 cloves of garlic all together to create a paste. Add in 2 to 3 teaspoons of lime juice or water (if using water add 10-15 drops of tea tree oil) and apply this to the scalp. Leave in this paste for ½ hour and rinse out thoroughly.
8. Thyme.

Prepare a strong herbal infusion using either fresh or dried thyme leaves and flowers. Use this preparation as a rinse or spray onto hair while combing with a nit comb multiple times a day.
9. Essential oils.

Add any of the following essential oils you have on hand to a carrier oil (such as olive, coconut, jojoba, or sesame) and apply to hair — using the same method as with the coconut oil and healing oil treatment — to kill lice: Melaleuca (tea tree oil), lavender, rosemary, clove, eucalyptus, cinnamon, thyme, peppermint, oregano, or ylang ylang
Additional measures that must be followed:

According to the CDC, lice and their eggs are killed by exposure for 5 minutes to temperatures greater than 53.5°C (128.3°F). Note: Personal items such as hats, grooming aids, and towels that come in contact with the hair of an infested person should never be shared.

1. Machine wash and dry clothing, stuffed animals, bed linens, hats, towels, and other items that the infested person wore or used during the 2 days before treatment using the hot water (130°F) laundry cycle and the high heat drying cycle. Clothing and items that are not washable can be dry-cleaned or sealed in a plastic bag and stored for 2 weeks.
2. Soak combs and brushes in hot water (at least 130°F) for 5-10 minutes.
3. Vacuum the floor and furniture, particularly where the infested person sat or lay.
Note

– After each treatment, check the hair and comb with the nit comb every 2-3 days to decrease the risk of re-infestation.
– Continue to check hair for 2-3 weeks to be sure all lice and nits are gone.
– See a trained medical professional for proper diagnosis and treatment of head lice and/or if any concerns arise.

Collagen is much easily absorbed and perfect for those who struggle with gut issues. It has been shown to improve low stomach aid and strengthen mucosal lining.

Cellulite on the other hand, is caused by a breakdown of collagen. There are many other causes of cellulite, but it has been noted that drinking collagen regularly helps to improve the appearance of the thighs.

Hair and nails are also made up of collagen and like joints and bones, it will naturally become more brittle as you age. This is because of the decrease in collagen production.

How Drinking This Hot Beverage Can Boost Your Memory and Brain Health

Who does not love hot cocoa? It’s yummy, warm and delicious! But did you know that it may have previously unknown health benefits?

According to a study with Harvard Medical School, a few cups of hot cocoa daily could fight mental decline in elder people and improve your memory.

How Drinking This Hot Beverage Can Boost Your Memory and Brain Health
Study

The study involved 60 adults with an average age of 73. None of the participants had dementia at the onset of the study and they were all told to avoid consumption of any other chocolate products. Each participant was given 2 cups of hot chocolate daily for 30 consecutive days.

The researchers found that nearly all participants had improved neurovascular coupling, when local brain activity is stimulated by changes in blood flow.

“The different areas of the brain needs more energy to complete their tasks, added to that it also need greater blood flow. This relationship, which is called neurovascular coupling, may play an important role in diseases such as Alzheimer’s”

Before the study, all of the participants were evaluated using MRI and mental tests. Their memory and thinking skills were evaluated. Ultrasounds were used to measure neurovascular coupling.

Prior to the 30-day period, nearly one-third of participants had impaired neurovascular coupling. Also these 18 participants had damage in the white matter of their brain. Damage which is related to restricted blood flow.

Conclusion

After 30 days of consuming hot cocoa at least twice daily, there were only 5 participants who still had impaired neurovascular coupling.

Added to that, before the study, the participants completed a memory test in an average of 167 seconds. Following the research period, that time was reduced to only 116 seconds, a 30% improvement among all participants.

“There is a strong correlation between cognitive function and neurovascular coupling, both can be improved by regular cocoa consumption in individuals with baseline impairments, as concluded by the researchers.
“Better neurovascular coupling is also linked to greater white matter structural integrity.”
How Hot Chocolate Works?

So what makes hot chocolate great for your brain? It is actually the polyphenols in the chocolate, which makes it beneficial. These antioxidants help increase the blood flow throughout the body and especially the brain.

To get the most benefits from your chocolate consumption, you can choose organic dark chocolate, which contains limited sugar and higher concentrations of the antioxidant compounds.

Chemo Kills, Not Cancer – Doctor

Cancer is a terrifying disease and rightfully so. It has been among the top causes of death not only in the United States, but also for the rest of the world. While cancer is generally untreatable, there are ways to stop the disease from spreading and causing more harm to the body. One such treatment is chemotherapy, which is actually considered the most popular option these days.
But There is One Problem…

Some people may not be pleased to hear this, especially those who have had loved ones suffering and dying from this conventional treatment for cancer, but chemotherapy is said to not be effective – at all. In many cases, patients have to go through a lot of pain and distress in hopes that they will feel better. But oftentimes, this does not happen and they usually succumbed to chemo’s effects.

One professor from the University of California, Berkeley named Dr. Hardin B. Jones stated that he studied the cancer patients and their life spans. He compared those who were treated under chemotherapy and those who did not undergo the procedure. His observation was simple: chemotherapy DOES NOT work for the following reasons:

Chemotherapy is poison and is therefore toxic to the bodies of the patients. This resulted to them dying horrifically.
Those who underwent chemotherapy died earlier than those who did not even have a treatment.
Cancer patients who did not undergo chemo lived 12 and a half years on average based on Dr. Jones’ research.
Meanwhile, those who had chemotherapy only lived an average of three years.

While controversial, the doctor only aims to save lives.

Chemotherapy is Not for Breast Cancer Patients

For those who have breast cancer or those with loved ones suffering from this disease, one of the first options is to go through chemo. But Dr. Jones, based on his study which took more than 25 years of observing cancer patients, discovered that those who refuse to go through chemo live longer than those who do. In fact, cancer patients who reject chemo were able to live four times longer than those who choose to follow the conventional therapy system.

However, this type of information is not something anyone will hear about in mainstream media. Dr. Jones, along with other experts who are against chemotherapy for cancer patients, declared that injecting poison to the body is not the way to survive cancer. In short, chemotherapy is not a cure, but it is actually fatal.

Dr. Jones also stressed that it is not only chemotherapy, but also surgery and radiation therapy that can kill people. Remaining untreated can actually give a patient four times more years than those who decide to follow the system.

8 Leftovers You Should NEVER Reheat (As This Could Poison Your Family)

I’m sure most of you are quite used to reheating leftover food in the attempt to not let it go to waste. While often this is perfectly fine some foods could put your families health at risk when reheated.

Most of the foods, you shouldn’t reheat are foods you wouldn’t usually think twice about.

Here are some of the most common foods you should never reheat:

1. Beets

Beets have a high level of nitrate while nitrate is rather good for you, this is one of those foods that should not be reheated.

2. Chicken

Chicken is probably one of the most commonly reheated foods out there nowadays, This is very dangerous, chicken has a high content of protein which if reheated after a day or so, can cause digestive problems. If you really must eat it try to do so cold.

3. Potatoes

Potatoes are extremely good for you; they have a very high nutritional value. But the longer you let them sit, the lower their nutritional value becomes, They can even eventually become toxic.

4. Mushrooms
Mushrooms should always be eaten after preparation. Their composition of proteins can change as well over a matter of a day or so, this will cause digestive issues as mentioned above with the chicken.

5. Spinach
Reheating spinach is dangerous as well. Spinach has a high level of nitrates that when reheated cause the whole amount of spinach to become a complete nitrate. This is carcinogenetic to the body.

6. Eggs
Eggs become toxic when exposed to high heat. You should try to stay away from reheated scrambled eggs and reheated boiled eggs. These will upset your stomach dramatically.

7. Celery
Much like spinach celery should not be reheated because of its nitrate percentage. Usually, people add celery to soups and things of that sort, so I suggest removing the celery before reheating to avoid problems.

8. Turnips
Turnips are also high in nitrates; You should never reheat them. Instead, I strongly suggest eating them cold.
So instead of going straight to the fridge and reheating something, next time consider what exactly it is you’re trying to reheat. If it is one of the things on this list, do your digestive system a favor and don’t reheat it.

Shoulder Pain At Night: Should I Worry?

It should be the most comforting part of the day, when you finally lie down to get some rest. Suddenly, you have shoulder pains that make you unable to get good rest, or, at the very worst, make you unable to sleep at all. Should you immediately have it looked at?
Normal factors

Not all shoulder pains are serious, or may have serious underlying issues. In many cases, the shoulder pain may be due to a pinched nerve or a bad sleeping position. All that is needed for this sort of case would be a bed whose properties are approved by a doctor, and probably some relaxation techniques that can affect how one moves during the night. If all else fails, then lifestyle changes can be done, such as exercising, which will make sure that the sufferer won’t toss and turn at night.
Medical reasons

When your shoulder pain becomes a regular part of your life when you try to get some sleep at night, then you have to consider the following possibilities:
Strain or overexertion

– It doesn’t matter if you you’re in shape or not. What has happened is that your shoulder muscles have been stretched to the point where you have injured the muscle tissue itself, or, worse, other tissues in the surrounding area.

This could have been caused by one action where you ended up overstraining your muscles to the limit, or it could be because of repetitive actions that could end with unique stress injuries to the joints.

You may also have to see if your own posture is causing undue strain on your body, which then turns into sensations of pain when you’re resting at night.

Impact

– Alternatively, you may also have had impact-related injuries that may have caused tissue inflammation all around. This can lead to a few days, or even weeks of recovery as the inflammation goes down and the soft tissue repairs itself.

A related injury could be because of a dislocation. The dislocation does not necessarily have to happen during the night. However, if you have dislocated your shoulder in an event earlier in the day, then even if you feel okay, your rest at night will bring out some of the aches and pains from that.

It’s possible the impact may have created hairline fractures that may undergo stress when you put your body in an untoward position while you are sleeping.
Other serious reasons

– If you haven’t had any impact injuries, and you’re relatively sure that you haven’t had strain injuries, then it’s time to visit specialists who can look at your shoulder. Serious medical conditions include abnormal bone growths, degenerative diseases that can affect the bone, muscle, and connective tissue, pinched nerves that may need serious medical attention and even tumors that can be growing and crowing out the muscles in your shoulder area.

Always observe how your shoulder’s position or your own body’s position at night affects the pain. That way, your doctor will have a better idea of what’s going on, before checking you for more serious maladies.

How Bitter Gourd Benefits the Body

Bitter gourd, is a tropical and subtropical vine of the family Cucurbitaceae. It is also known as bitter squash, bitter melon, and balsam-pear, and it grows widely in Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean for its fruit. While it is extremely bitter, among other fruits from kingdom Plantae, bitter gourd has a number of health benefits.

Bitter gourd is widely recognized for its medicinal effects, such as lowering the blood glucose in diabetes mellitus. According to Diabetes UK, the fruit has three active substances with anti-diabetic properties, which includes charantin. As per the publication, the substance has been linked to the reduction of blood glucose. Along with charantin, bitter gourd also has vicine and polypeptide-p, a compoundthat has properties like insulin. These substances work hand in hand to prevent the elevation of sugar levels in the bloodstream. In a study, it was revealed that bitter melon helped the participants increase cellular uptake of glucose and enhance glucose tolerance.

Aside from charantin, vicine, and polypeptide-p, bitter gourd also has lectin, which also decreases blood glucose concentrations by acting on peripheral tissues and reducing one’s appetite. Thus, a person will not consume more food, which prevents further raise in blood sugar levels. With the aforementioned property, lectin is also linked to  hypoglycemic effects after consuming bitter melon.

Bitter melon is also rich in vitamin B9, also known as folic acid or folate. According to Nutrition and You, fresh pods of the plant are excellent sources of the vitamin and they carry about 72 micrograms per 100 grams or 18 percent of recommended daily intake. The said vitamin is also beneficial to mothers during their early pregnancy time, since it aid in the health of the newborn and prevents the incidence of neural tube defects in babies. The fruit is also a moderate source of other B vitamins like vitamin B3 or niacin, vitamin B5 or pantothenic acid, vitamin B6 or pyridoxine, along with zinc, potassium, manganese, magnesium, and iron. Zinc helps with the treatment of acute diarrhea, common colds, ear infections, and lower respiratory infections. Potassium and magnesium help in muscle contraction and cardiovascular health while manganese has properties that contribute to bone production, skin integrity, blood sugar control, and protection against free radical damage. Iron helps in the delivery of oxygen to the body by increasing the hemoglobin-oxygen bond.

In addition to the management of diabetes mellitus and its vitamin content, bitter gourd is also helpful in the treatment of bitter gourd and toxemia. According to Juicing for Health, the fruit has beneficial properties that aid in cleansing the blood from toxins. As per the publication, two spoonfuls of bitter gourd juice can be taken daily to help cleanse the liver and get rid of jaundice or yellowish discoloration of the skin and the white part if the eyes. By controlling toxemia, bitter gourd can also treat blood boils and itching. Two ounces of bitter gourd juice can also be mixed with lime juice and the mixture is sipped slowly on an empty stomach everyday for four to six months.

The heart also gains benefit from bitter gourd. According to Life Hack, the fruit has contents that help reduce the cholesterol levels in the blood, thus, decreasing the risk of having heart disease, heart attack, and stroke. This is related to the fruits low calorie content, which prevents the rise of cholesterol and fat in the blood. Bitter gourd also help metabolize carbohydrates, thus, the plant also allows a person to lose or maintain weight within normal range and improve the growth and development of muscles.

MUST READ: The 7 Dangerous Acts After Meal

The 7 Dangerous Acts after meal….MUST READ

* Don’t smoke- Experiment from experts proves that smoking a cigarette after meal is comparable to smoking 10 cigarettes (chances of cancer is higher).

* Don’t eat fruits immediately -When you eat your fruits with meals, the fruit is stuck in the stomach along with the contents of the meals and cannot reach the intestines in time. Lying there they get spoilt and spoil the remaining food in the stomach too. Thus it is recommended that you eat a fruit at least one hour after eating a meal or before your meal and preferably in the morning with empty stomach. It is in the morning that the body can best use the nutrients in the fruit and get enough energy to start the day.

* Don’t drink tea – Because tea leaves contain a high content of acid. This substance will cause the Protein content in the food we consume to be hardened thus difficult to digest. It is preferable to drink tea an hour after meals.

* Don’t loosen your belt -Fiction, not particularly bad for you!
We generally have an attitude that a good meal is that which forces us to loosen our belts. However, loosening the belt is bad, not because it causes the intestines to twist or block but because it means that you have over eaten to a level that you are uncomfortable. Loosening of the belt may also cause you to feel comfortable once again which means you may continue overeating.
So eat only to the extent that you can be comfortable without loosening your belt!

* Don’t bathe – Bathing after meal will cause the increase of blood flow to the hands, legs & body thus the amount of blood around the stomach will therefore decrease. This will weaken the digestive system in our stomach.

* Don’t walk about -Fact, it is bad for you! Walking directly after meals is a bad idea, it can result to acid reflux and indigestion. However, walking about half an hour after meals is known to be good for you. Researchers in the Department of Exercise Science at the University of South Carolina, have found that walking after exercise is a good way to burn energy.

The point to note is when to walk, you should ideally walk for about 10 minutes and only 20-30 minutes after meal to prevent acid reflux and stomach upsets.

* Don’t sleep immediately – The food we intake will not be able to digest properly. Thus will lead to gastric & infection in our intestine.

Glandular Fever: Get to Know This Viral Infection Common in Young Adults

Many teenagers are in love with the idea of being in love! You can see lots of them cuddling, holding hands and making out. There is a particular disease that is said to be very common among young adults, which is caused by a virus — it’s called glandular fever.

This health problem goes by other name, too, such as mononucleosis or mono. It is oftentimes referred to as the kissing disease because — you guessed it right — it’s spread through saliva.

Since it is viral in nature, there is no known cure for glandular fever. However, the signs and symptoms which are similar to the flu tend to go away in 1 to 2 months, according to medical professionals. Treatment is focused on easing the various symptoms experienced by the patient. There are also home treatments that can help in dealing with the symptoms. It’s very rarely that glandular fever becomes fatal.

It is not unlikely for someone with glandular fever to develop secondary infections such as tonsillitis and sinusitis. There are also a handful of complications that are associated with the viral disease. Some of them include an inflamed liver and enlarged spleen. In rare instances, the swollen spleen due to glandular fever may rupture, requiring surgery. Such rupturing of the spleen is often caused by a forceful blow to the abdomen, such as while engaging in sports.

Causes and Risk Factor

The virus responsible for glandular fever is the Epstein-Barr virus or EBV, which is a part of the herpes family. EBV is also regarded as one of the most common viruses to infect man worldwide.

Just like what’s mentioned earlier, the said virus can be spread from person to person through saliva. It’s not just via kissing that glandular fever can infect others — it may also be passed through sneezing, coughing and sharing utensils with someone with EBV.

You may have glandular fever already but not know it right away. That’s because the signs and symptoms tend to appear 4 to 8 weeks after getting infected. However, it’s possible for someone to have the viral disease and not develop any sign or symptom. It’s not uncommon for glandular fever to affect children and heal on its own without even causing noticeable signs and symptoms.

Those who are between 15 and 30 years old are said to be at higher risk of having glandular fever. Just about anyone who comes into contact with a large number of people may get infected as well. Nurses, caregivers and individuals who take drugs to suppress their immune systems are also at risk.

Signs and Symptoms

It can be hard to distinguish glandular fever from flu and other problems caused by common viruses because the signs and symptoms are basically the same. In some instances, the infection produces no noticeable signs or symptoms at all; but when it does, they tend to appear 4 to 8 weeks after being infected with EBV.

The most common signs and symptoms of glandular fever include swollen lymph nodes in the neck and/or other parts of the body, fever, headache, muscle weakness, night sweats and sore throat. Someone with the viral infection may also have chills, loss of appetite, skin rash, eye puffiness, and pain around or behind the eyes.

In 1 to 2 months, these signs and symptoms may resolve on their own. According to the experts, most people with glandular fever may return to having a normal life in 2 to 4 weeks only. However, it is possible for fatigue brought about by the disease to extend for a few weeks or even months.

Treatment and Home Remedies

Because it is caused by a virus, there is no known cure for glandular fever. Antibiotics are not given to a patient as they have no effect on viruses. However, doctors may prescribe drugs to help in easing painful and inflamed throat that may develop due to the disease.

There are a few home care solutions that should be provided to someone with glandular fever for faster recovery. Some of them include plenty of bed rests and increased fluid intake. OTC painkillers may also be taken.

Whiten Your Teeth Naturally In Just 3 Minutes

How much does it cost you to have your teeth whitened at the dentist? We’re pretty sure it will run into tens, if not hundreds of dollars. So why not consider a more natural way of doing it at home instead. This doesn’t involve harsh abrasives, toxic chemicals or anything like bleach! This is a more natural yet still effective way of making those ‘pearly whites’ sparkle the way you like them to.

You’ll find this method especially useful if you drink a lot of tea or coffee as we know these are some of the prime culprits in darkening beautiful white teeth. If you smoke that will also stain your teeth, as well as do untold damage to the rest of your body, so do prioritize your health if you can. The best thing you notice when you start to watch the video is that there are only two components to the teeth-whitening paste, and neither of them is expensive.

10 Foods to Eat Everyday for Perfect Skin

Taking care of your skin has never been easy. These days there are tons of beauty products that promise you flawless skin. Achieving that silky smooth and vibrant skin does not only require the use of your regular regimen but also a balanced and nutritious diet. Start eating food that enhances skin health! Check out the list of 10 foods to eat everyday for that perfect skin!

1. Red Bell Peppers

Red-bell-peppers

Red bell peppers are a tasty vegetable that can be enjoyed either cooked or raw. One red bell pepper contains more than 100% of your daily vitamin C needs. It also contains significant amounts of dietary fiber and vitamin B6. Moreover, it is rich in carotenoids that can help prevent wrinkles and increase blood circulation to your skin, helping it look more youthful. Due to their carotenoids, red bell peppers are also great to fight acne.

A red bell pepper is a perfect, low calorie snack that contains about 30 calories and has a really satisfying crunchy bite. Keep slices of red bell peppers in the fridge, so you will always have something healthy and tasty to reach for when you are having a snack attack. The fiber that a bell pepper contains will help you to feel full longer with very little calories. Plus, you will have a flawless skin!

2. Dark Chocolate

Dark-chocolate

This is one of my favorite foods to eat every day for perfect skin! Dark chocolate is rich in antioxidants, fatty acids and flavanols that promote glowing skin. The antioxidants in dark chocolate will help reduce roughness in your skin and protect it against sun damage. Moreover, cocoa relaxes arteries, increasing blood circulation that leads to healthier skin.

I usually buy cocoa powder or raw cacao for less fat. And if you like dark chocolate, eat your ounce of dark chocolate every day and make sure you choose at least 80% cacao content in order to avoid milk and added sugars found in a traditional chocolate bar.
3.  Salmon

Salmon

Salmon is an excellent food to fight stress, anxiety, and depression. Salmon also provides most of your daily vitamin D needs. And as you may already know, Vitamin D is responsible for keeping your heart, bones, colon and brain healthy. It also helps prevent colon cancer, anxiety, depression, heart disease and bone disease.

Salmon is also rich in omega-3 fatty acids that are excellent for fighting inflammation, wrinkles and acne. Its high omega-3 content also helps hydrate your skin from the inside out. Moreover, eating salmon keeps your scalp hydrated and promotes strong, healthy hair.

4. Coconut Oil

Coconut-oil1

Coconut oil is one of the richest sources of saturated fat with about 90 percent of calories as saturated fat. It contains lauric acid, a powerful antibacterial and antiviral agent that keeps away viruses, infections, inflammation and acne. Coconut oil is also rich in essential fatty acids and Vitamin E, which are perfect for keeping your skin moist, soft, and wrinkle-free.

I use coconut oil as a body cream and consume 1 tbsp. of raw coconut oil every day. Coconut oil is especially good for your thyroid. Plus, there’s considerable evidence that this oil can help lose weight. So many health benefits, don’t you think?

5. Green Tea

Green-tea

Well, so I know green tea is actually a beverage, but tea leaves come from a plant! Even though I love black tea, I drink green tea every day because I know that it is a great source of antioxidants and a unique amino acid, L-theanine that helps relax your body and lower stress.

When the tea is hot, the bionic brew releases catechins, a kind of antioxidant with proven anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties. Green tea may also reduce your risk of developing high blood pressure. Drink 3 or more cups of tea every day for better results.

6. Spinach

Spinach

Spinach is a healthy and nutrient-rich food you should certainly include in your everyday diet. You may hate spinach, but it is a wonderful source of iron, folate, chlorophyll, Vitamin E, magnesium, Vitamin A, fiber, plant protein, and Vitamin C. Due to their antioxidant abilities, Vitamins C, E, and A are especially great for your skin.

Spinach contains antioxidants that fight against all types of skin problems. Add it to your everyday diet and see what happens. By eating spinach, you’re just cleaning your skin from the inside out!

7. Seeds

Seeds

Chia seeds, hemp seeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and flax seeds are all great for your skin. Pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds are both rich in selenium, Vitamin E, magnesium and protein. Selenium and protein keep all wrinkles away, Vitamin E enhances moisture in your skin and magnesium lowers your stress levels. The healthy Omega 3 fatty acids in flax, chia and hemp seeds are perfect for fighting wrinkles and acne. Plus, these seeds are rich in protein.

Just sprinkle seeds right on top of your salad or oatmeal and enjoy the great taste as well as perfect skin. I like to add seeds to a fruit yogurt, I think it tastes even better. I also add raw pumpkin seeds in my oh-so delicious smoothies. And what are your favorite seeds? How do you eat them?

8.  Celery

Celery

Another food to eat daily for perfect skin is celery. Many of us underestimate this veggie, but celery contains Vitamin K that keeps the blood circulation healthy and helps to reduce high blood pressure. This can reduce your stress level, and as you know stress can cause bad skin, migraines and even cancer.

Celery also contains natural sodium, potassium and water, and can help to prevent dehydration. I hope you know that dehydrated skin means dryness, flaking, wrinkles, and even breakouts. Make sure you consume celery every day or at least every other day. If you are counting calories, don’t worry, celery is very low in calories!

9. Papaya

Papaya

Papaya is a wonderful fruit which has a rich history and numerous nutritional benefits. It is very low in calories (only 39 calories per 100 g!) and also contains no cholesterol. So if you are trying to lose weight, consider eating papaya every day to maximize its health benefits.

A great beauty food, papaya is low in fructose and is excellent for digestion! The antioxidant nutrients found in it, including Vitamins C and E and beta-carotene, are great at reducing inflammation and acne. Moreover, Vitamin C may also protect your skin against sun damage.

10. Carrots

Carrots1

Carrots are good not only for your eyes, but also for your skin. They are especially good for clearing up breakouts. Carrots are rich in vitamin A and they help prevent the overproduction of cells in the outer layer of the skin. That’s where excess sebum combines with dead cells and clogs pores.

Another great reason to snack on some carrots is because Vitamin A reduces the development of skin-cancer cells. So make sure you nibble on a half-cup of baby carrots every day for perfect skin. I love carrots and I think they make a great snack.

You don’t have to eat all these foods every day, but even some of them would be great! Be sure to avoid junk foods, too much sugar, trans fats and refined carbs for the best skin possible. Which of these foods do you eat every day? Share your thoughts, please, and thanks for reading!

4 Natural Remedies to Erase Keloids and Scars

Although scars and keloids are non-life-threatening, they can be unsightly and embarrassing. Usually, when you want to “remove” them, you spend hundreds of dollars on laser and other surgical procedures.

To avoid side effects and to save some cash, consider getting rid of them with these natural remedies:
Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)

ACV is a good natural treatment for keloids since they can help reduce their size and itchiness. To use it, dab cotton with ACV and apply it directly into the affected area. Wait for a few minutes to allow ACV to go deeper into your skin and dry. Repeat the process for a few times during the day.
Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is rich in vitamin C that helps in skin healing and lightens the appearance of scars, especially if they are new. To apply, squeeze the juice from the lemon and apply directly to your skin using your fingers or dipping cotton to it. Wait for a couple of minutes before washing it with water.
Aloe Vera

A natural skin wonder treatment, aloe vera moisturizes your skin, preventing dryness and itchiness. It also prevents infections and reduces inflammation.

Remove aloe vera skin carefully to expose the flesh. Blend to make gel then apply on the scar tissue. Wait for a few minutes before washing it.

Baking soda

Keloids and scars are skin tissues that tend to cover the scars to protect them from further injury (keloids are merely overgrowth of scar tissues due to overproduction of collagen).

Baking soda may be used to stimulate constant production of new healthy skin cells through exfoliation.

Make a paste by combining a part baking soda and three parts water. Mix both until they form a paste, apply on the affected skin, and then scrub for a few minutes. Wash after with clean water.

If the scar has the tendency to become inflamed or itchy, use hydrogen peroxide instead of water for its anti-microbial properties.
Prevent Scars from Developing

The treatments above may not necessarily remove scars and keloids but lighten their color so they become significantly less visible.

If you want to avoid dealing with scars in the future, avoid injuries. For example, if you have acne, don’t squeeze those zits or remove blackheads and whiteheads by yourself. Seek a professional dermatologist who can provide you with the right treatment.

How To Build Strong Bones By Eating Salad

Apparently, there’s more to building strong bones than just eating dairy products alone. So how does eating salad helps to build strong bones?

Let’s find out how…
Explanation

A recently published research revealed, that oldest adults with the highest amount or intake of the antioxidants called carotenoids, retained more bone mineral density than people who are consuming fewer vegetables and fruits. Carotenoids are found in carrots, leafy vegetables and tomatoes. Compounds such as beta carotene, lutein, lycopene and zeaxanthin are also present in vegetables.

The study also revealed that compounds present in vegetables and fruits namely potassium salt, help build strong bones by reducing the rate of bone resorption and breakdown, thus reducing the amount of calcium you let out through urine.

The process of bone resorption involves a natural process, together with bone formation. But sometimes, there’s more bone breakdown than growth, leading to weak and fragile bones. Therefore, reducing resorption might help prevent osteoporosis or benefit people who already have it.
Conclusion

To increase your consumption of vegetables, choose fresh produce that are rich in potassium like beet greens, spinach, avocados, sweet potatoes, oranges, beets, raisins and edamame. These foods contain potassium citrate, which is converted to potassium bicarbonate in the body. Dark, leafy and green vegetables are also a good source of bone-building magnesium, calcium, and vitamin K, which benefits your bones a lot.

But keep this in mind, while salad with fruits and vegetables will help a lot in increasing your bone strength, they are not enough to provide all the vitamin D and calcium your body needs.

So don’t avoid dairy products at all. If you cannot eat dairy products for some health reasons, choose other alternatives, such as sardines, soy milk, almonds and salmons.
